Pedagogic Research

The Centre is keen to support bioscientists who wish to undertake pedagogic research*. Currently this support is provided in four main ways:

Funding of small-scale investigations

We fund investigations, interventions and resource development via our Teaching Development Fund and Departmental Teaching Enhancement Scheme

A place to publish

Our peer-reviewed journal Bioscience Education provides a place to publish bioscience educational research and evaluations

Comprehensive introductory information

Our wiki Getting Started in Bioscience Education Research provides pages aimed at bioscientists involved in tertiary-level teaching who are interested in developing their teaching activities with a view to research leading to publication. Topics covered include:

  • Why undertake Educational Research?
  • Sources of funding for Educational Research
  • Data Collection
  • Getting Published
  • Useful Investigative Tools

* for the purposes of this website 'pedagogic research' and 'educational research' are used interchangeably. However, we do make a distinction between research and evaluation. Research is used when a piece of work can be transfered beyond the immediate context that it was undertaken, evaluation is used if the findings are limited to a particular context or resource.
