Case Studies: Bioscience applications of JorumContributor and user perspectivesTo encourage the take-up of the Jorum repository we are inviting Case Studies from both a user's and contributor's perspective. Jorum (www.jorum.ac.uk) is a free online repository service for teaching and support staff in UK Further and Higher Education Institutions. We are encouraging the upload of suitable bioscience exemplars of HE level materials to increase its uptake and embedding. We would expect each case study to illustrate issues with developing suitable content, cataloguing it for widespread use and using the content as both downloaded material and hosted material called on-demand from the Jorum repository. JorumOpen is to be released this year (2009) and will allow open access to materials with a Creative Commons licence. Users will be able to search the whole Jorum repository via the website, and then download materials deposited under Creative Commons licences without the need for logging on. Any materials placed in the current Jorum repository will also be available. Authenticated access will only be required where materials have been deposited with further licensing restrictions. New! Jorum has a Biological Sciences RSS feed to keep
you up to date with new additions. Biological
Sciences Funding available: Contributors £750; Users — up to £500 A Jorum Case Study template is available for guidance. This has additional requirements to our recent e-learning templates and 'Contributors' are expected to complete an addtional section. Download Jorum case study template Items for re-use through the Jorum repository are often gathered as part of a collection to enable single upload and download into a VLE as 'content packages'. Tools to assist with the assembly of content packages are available from the ReLoad site This is still an excellent opportunity to gain experience of the exchange of open educational resources through a repository system, especially as we are providing £500-£750 for a brief case-study write up. This funding is provided under the JISC/Higher Education Academy Distributed e-Learning programme. |
