WebOL Lite
DescriptionThis is a lighter version of the original WebOL which was developed to allow authors to produce on-line formative assessments. WebOL has been presented in workshops at a number of events, for example, at ALT-C 2001 in Edinburgh, and as a paper at the 5th International CAA Conference. This 'lite' version was funded by the Centre for use by the Bioscience academic community. The recent update to version 2.1 includes the capacity for IMS QTI question output. An evaluation by the Computer Assisted Assessment (CAA) Centre, said "WebOL offers the CBA 'market' an effective tool that has the hallmarks of an experienced academic practitioner. The software has clarity of purpose and functional elements have been designed for the academic rather than the commercial market". Please note the Centre cannot provide technical support for this product. Users are advised to use the on-line help system to design and create assessments. No specialist computing knowledge is needed to produce materials, but their pedagogical effectiveness depends upon the author. The system does not offer guidance on this, nor does it pretend to. The system is reasonably simple to use, and usable questions can be produced within a short time of first installation. WebOL Lite is provided as 'freeware' to the bioscience academic community.
