Networking Events Designed to Encourage Participation of PhD Students and Post-Doctoral Fellows with the UK Centre for Bioscience, and Promote Engagement and Innovation in Teaching & Learning Development
DescriptionPostgraduates and post doctoral fellows at most Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are given responsibility for a wide range of teaching activities. However, these responsibilities may be seen as secondary to their research activities, and there may be few opportunities to develop an understanding of learning development or to have the experience formally recognised. In addition these groups do not currently have contact with the HEA Centre for Bioscience, which can offer support and experience for individuals interested in developing their knowledge of teaching and learning in the context of HEIs. The aim of the project is to organise a series of events to give postgraduates and post doctoral fellows the opportunity to interact with HEA Centre for Bioscience staff and reps, and to discuss issues and opportunities relevant to them in teaching development in HEIs. In addition, the events will give the groups the opportunity to begin an application to the Higher Education Academy for Associate Fellow status, if they wish their experience to be formally recognised. Outcomes and downloadsTwo events have been held, the event presentations, discussion session outcomes and resources are available to download
