Real World ProjectIntegrating Work-Related Learning into the Curriculum: conceptual framework and good practice guideProject outlineReal World was a project with a national focus supported by the HEFCE Fund for the Development of Teaching and Learning. It aimed to enhance the employability of students within the disciplines of Agriculture, Environment, Forestry and Organismal Bioscience through the integration of work-related learning activities into the curriculum. Work related learning according to the Real World project is defined as, 'learning outcomes achieved through activities which are based on, or derive from, the context of work or the work place. The benefit of developing work related learning as a concept is that teaching activities are not restricted to the workplace and it embraces a wider range of teaching activities as illustrated below. It therefore provides greater opportunities for students to develop awareness and skills relevant to the world of work. The Real World project funded ten Higher Education Institutions to undertake curriculum developments in order to gain a greater understanding of what is meant by 'good practice' in work related learning. One main output from the project was the production of a Good Practice Guide in work related learning. OutcomesPublications:
