Description

Feedback to students is an integral part of the learning experience at university and yet the National Student Survey shows students in biosciences departments to be dissatisfied with the feedback they receive. The project aims to determine students? initial reactions when they first see the feedback they receive on essay-style coursework. Such initial reactions can be crucial in motivating or demotivating a student and has significant repercussions for the student?s approach to studying. Students across all cohorts of bioscience undergraduates at three universities will be targeted. Results will be fed into a series of recommendations on how to improve feedback to ensure that the initial responses of students to the feedback they receive encourages them to read on and make future use of their marked assignments.
