Emotional consequences of cadaver dissection - correlates and mediating factors
DescriptionThis project examined the emotional reaction of students of anatomy immediately after their first exposure to human cadaver dissection and the lingering adverse effects which may be present up to four months after this first exposure. The study included a range of measures used to identify psychosocial determinants of this emotional reaction, with a view to identifying students who were most likely to experience adverse consequences. Anatomy teachers can then use this information to develop interventions which will make the introduction of cadaver dissection less problematic for these students, thereby enhancing their learning experience. The project took place in Queen's University Belfast, National University of Ireland Galway and University of Durham. Outcomes and downloads
