Description
Substituting lectures with prescribed reading and frequent in course assessment has recently been shown to improve student performance in an Animal Physiology module (Chevins 2005). In that study both formative and summative assessments were delivered on paper under examination conditions and were thus compulsory. The present project will use the same teaching method and assessments, but will use on-line delivery, allowing students to do the formative assessments in their own time, as many times as they wish, or not at all. Student behaviour and its effect on their overall achievement, including examination performance under these conditions will be investigated, as will student and staff opinion of this aspect of e-learning.
