The forum will consider the relationship between teaching and research: "A major issue for all those involved is how to distribute inevitably limited research funds in such a way as adequately to fund the sharply increased volume of research in departments rated 5 and 5*, to maintain research excellence and allow the best research to compete globally in the long term. At the same time we need to ensure that we continue to maintain a high level of teaching quality."

20 December 2002 - The Nuffield Foundation Undergraduate Research Bursaries 2003 - Closing date : Tuesday 18th February 2003
The Nuffield Foundation is offering a limited number of awards to enable undergraduates to participate in scientific research in universities during the summer vacation. 380 applications were received in 2002 and 239 awards were made. The purpose of the awards is to give experience of research to undergraduates with research potential and to encourage them to consider a career in scientific research.
Funding: provide support for the student at a rate of £140 per week normally for a period between 6 and 10 weeks.
