External Examining Audit ToolsThe Centre for Bioscience offers two audit tools to help enhance undergraduate external examining and improve aspects of the external examining process. One audit is for external examiners and the other is for institutions. The audit tools are designed to help both institutions and external examiners consider if the provision made for external examiners can be improved and to identify strengths and weaknesses of the processes in place for external examining or their practices. Examiner's Audit ToolThe examiner's audit tool is designed to help individual examiners improve various aspects of the external examining process. The audit tool is intended to help external examiners consider if the provision made can be improved and to identify both the strengths and the weaknesses of their practices. It asks them to consider various aspects of the external examining process prior to arriving at the institution at which they are examining, during the examining process and when writing the examiners report.
Institutional Audit ToolThe Institutional audit tool is designed to help administrators and course teams in institutions improve various aspects of the external examining process. The audit tool should help the group identify aspects of good practice which are appropriate to the circumstances and could be incorporated into current practice. The audit tool considers various aspects of the external examining process including; selection, appointment and induction of the external examiner(s), and also points to consider during approval of examinations, the visit to examine, and the examiners report.
Both audit tools can be changed to suit your requirements. All we ask is that you clearly acknowledge the Centre for Bioscience as the originator. We would appreciate it if you would let us know if you are using either of the audit tools and the nature of any changes you have made as a result of your analysis. We would also very much welcome any feedback you have to offer - contact the Centre for Bioscience
