A common problem when citing web page references

It is very common when citing a reference to material published as a web page on the internet to use the title at the top of the first text page and not its proper title.

In each web page there should always be a title which is declared in the invisible 'head' section of the page. This is the page title used by web robots when compiling web catalogues, for example Google. It is important to note this as a user searching for the page using this title has a better chance of success than using the text at the top of the first page of content.

For example, this page has the title 'How the title of a webpage is often confused' and not 'A common problem when citing web page references' as one might think. The title appears in the very top of the browser window, above all the text, buttons and menus in the actual frame of the window.

An example web page title

If you are referencing a web page it is important to use this proper title.
