Submissions will be accepted at any time. To be considered for publication in the next issue, work must be accepted in final form at least one month prior to the official publication date.
Receipt of a submission will be acknowledged by the UK Centre for Bioscience office. Research articles, descriptive accounts ands essays will be passed on for peer review; short communications, letters to the editor and resource reviews will be subject to editorial review.
The Editor-in-Chief will select an Editorial Board Member (EBM) to guide the paper through the review process. The manuscript will be reviewed by a minimum of 2 persons, one of whom may be the Editorial Board Member.
The EBM will collate the reviewer responses and make the recommendation that the manuscript be:
and forward this to the Editor-in-Chief.
The Editor-in-Chief will inform the communicating author of the decision, and, where appropriate, the desired changes. By utilising electronic submissions and email communication, authors can usually expect an initial response within 6 weeks.
Once accepted, the manuscript and associated files will be converted to XHTML format for mounting on the website. A pdf version will also be produced. Individual articles will be made available on the web as soon as possible after they have been accepted. Articles will then be grouped/collated together in issues twice a year for archiving and official publication registration. This procedure will be used to minimise time to publication.
Short communications, letters to the editor and resource reviews will be checked by an EBM for content and house style. Occasionally they may go to a second reviewer for comment. The Editor-in-Chief will inform the communicating author whether the submission is acceptable for publication and of any changes that need to be made.
