Faculty of Medicine
University of Aberdeen
This short suite of CAL programs, written with the aid of Asymetrix Toolbook, is designed to introduce medical undergraduates to the basic principles of anaesthesia. The introductory section is linked to a series of problem based CaseNotes (based on the BioNet CaseNotes template) allowing the undergraduate to act as an anaesthetist and to manage patients both pre- and post-operatively. To reinforce the factual content the undergraduates can also access a series of MCQ and text entry style revision questions.
The programs were written by a 5th year medical undergraduate as part of project option whilst the undergraduate was attached to the Anaesthetics Department. Subject content was devised in conjunction with the full time members of staff. The programs are extremely well written and presented and are an outstanding example of what can be achieved with a modern authoring system and robust template design.
