These questions are presented using an Asymetrix Toolbook "front-end" which accesses an extensive and easily editable bank of MCQ questions based on a standard and readily transferable format. The questions are scored as +1 for correct answers and -1 for incorrect answers and each question set includes a short resume as a guide to the correct answers. The exercises are suitable for any first or second year undergraduate studying mammalian physiology and can be used as either a summative indication of individual performance or as a revision exercise to complement other course material. The questions are designed for general use but can be tailored to specific groups such as medical undergraduates so as to include clinical bias. Three levels of difficulty are included: the basic level is suitable for undergraduates in the paramedical disciplines, an intermediate level for junior honours and the most advanced, with numerical problems, for use by honours undergraduates. The subject area and the degree of difficulty are selected from a menu on the opening page.
It is planned to include all physiological systems. At present a wide range of questions covering the central nervous system, special senses, energy metabolism and thermoregulation are already available.
